Art Conservation

The painting conservation process begins with a visual examination that enables us to suggest possible treatments to the client. Detailed photographic documentation is taken of the art work to record its' condition before treatment is begun.

After visual and chemical analysis, an estimate is written and sent to the client for approval. At this stage, a plan of action is discussed and procedures determined for maintaining the integrity of the piece without compromising the historical value. Once treatment is completed a report and images of the treatment process are created and can be provided to client upon request.

Our philosophy is to maintain the original artists' intent and to perform the least invasive treatments possible.

Our studio is equipped with a custom made 8' x 12' hot vacuum table that enables us to treat and line oversized paintings.

Frame & Furniture Restoration

For more than 25 years, Las Negras Studio provided comprehensive services in painting conservation, frame-making, frame and antique restoration and special finishes all under one roof.

In 2019, the framing and antique restoration as well as gilding and special finishes aspect of the business was passed down to Carlos’ long-time apprentice. Though still working in conjunction with our original studio, Juan ventured out and opened his own workshop in Oak Cliff where he continues to provide the highest quality craftsmanship and the finest custom finishes available in the Dallas area.

For gilding, traditional water-gilding, special finishes, frame or antique restoration feel free to contact Juan directly.
